Premier Dominic Perrottet of New South Wales unveiled a $3 billion green hydrogen strategy for the state, claiming it will create 10,000 jobs by 2030. The strategy will involve creating “hygrogen hubs” across whole NSW. He states that the world is moving to a renewable energy future, we want NSW to be at the cutting edge.
Mr Perrottet stated that the strategy will attract more than $80 billion in private investment and add $600 million to the NSW economy. “Making critical decisions now will secure future profitability,” he stated. While the Hunter and Illawarra regions had been “powerhouses” of NSW, Deputy Premier Paul Toole said the world was migrating away from coal.
Parkes, Wagga Wagga, and Hay were designated as critical renewable energy zones.
Environment Minister and Treasurer Matt Kean said: NSW will become the “green energy capital of the world” He pledged the Hunter and Illawarra regions would be future-proofed, hydrogen will be the size of the coal sector in NSW by 2050.
Billionaire Andrew predicted “There will be no industry larger than green hydrogen,”
Dr Forrest urged other governments to follow NSW and Queensland’s lead and jump on the hydrogen bandwagon. “This is the beginning of pollution-free, green industrial revolution.”
