FOGO – a new approach to recycling
There is a new food and garden waste disposal method, which has already seen widespread adoption globally. Introducing FOGO (food organics and garden organics) recycling. FOGO combines the current ‘green bin’ garden waste, and combines it with any food waste (which was previously dumped in landfill). This is all possible through the use of new FOGO waste processing plants.
Almost 40% of household red bin waste, which goes directly to landfill, is unwanted food. In landfill, this food is not only useless, but detrimental to the environment. By adopting FOGO recycling, this food will be composted and used in farms, parks, and sports fields.
The following are all able to be recycled under the new FOGO process:
- Garden waste – flowers, leaves, grass clippings, pruning’s, etc.
- Food waste – leftovers, bread, vegetable scraps, bones, milk, cheese, meat, etc.
- Tissues and paper towel
- Soiled pizza boxes
- Compostable packaging
- Pet waste
We often hear about how much food the first world wastes, however it is not often that an opportunity to solve this problem appears. One glaring problem however, is that plastic is not allowed to enter the composting facility.
